Project Rouj is a non-profit that exists to improve and transform the future of Haitian families, one home at a time. We don’t give houses to Haitians. That wouldn’t break the cycle of poverty, and it’s not what they want, anyway.

We hire local workers and pay them living wages to build homes, thereby creating jobs and affordable housing in the same stroke. That’s how the cycle of poverty becomes the cycle of renewal.

You’ll know our work from our iconic red roofs.

With your monthly donation, you will keep families safe in a new home and help us to employ nearly 200 Haitian workers. Raise the Roof club members will receive quarterly updates via Zoom from Director of Operations Luckner Raymond, hear from homeowners whose lives have been transformed, and receive correspondence from CEO Jamalyn Peigh Williamson.

THE COCONUT HOUSES
Building Israel’s Legacy

Donate Today

Israel was part of the Project Rouj family from the very beginning. He was one of our first employees, our plumber, and – when we brought groups to Haiti – one of our translators. But many people remember Israel for something else: his enormous smile and the fresh coconuts.

Israel and his family regularly welcomed our groups into their home, cutting open coconuts and sharing their hospitality with us. He was joyful, generous, hardworking, and an important part of the story of Project Rouj.

We recently lost our friend, and we want to honor his life in a way that reflects how he lived it:
by creating opportunity for others.

Non-Cash Gift

Would you like to give a gift other than cash? We accept stock, IRA distributions, giving from a charitable fund, and corporate matching gifts. Please email Buffy Perkins at bperkins@projectrouj.org and she will provide the details needed for these types of gifts.

Thank you from Fondwa!

Sponsor a House

Project Rouj’s strategy is based on building high-quality, long-lasting homes that will create family stability for generations to come. We build houses with modern kitchens replacing dirt floors and tin walls, we build houses with indoor plumbing instead of outhouses. Our homes are made of concrete designed to withstand natural disasters, and we surround our homes with trees that bear fruit to sustain families and create income.

We completed our first house in February 2019, with an initial goal to build 40 homes by 2021. Our vision beyond 2021 is to build 20 houses per year. We have added a reforestation initiative and home water projects to continue our desire to improve the future of Haitian families.

Project Rouj is supported 100% by donations from individuals, churches, corporations, and special grants.

At Project Rouj, it all starts with a home, a safe and secure place to live, the foundation upon which Haitians can build a better future for themselves. Project Rouj exists to improve and transform the future of Haitian families – one home at a time.

Your investment will be put to use immediately and change lives.
